NZ Tax‑Free Purchases

If you’re departing New Zealand on an international flight, you may be eligible to purchase selected jewellery tax‑free and collect it at the airport before you board.

Start a tax‑free purchase in‑store

How it Works?

  1. Choose your piece in‑store Visit any participating Michael Hill store in NZ to select your jewellery and request a tax‑free purchase. (Online fulfilment for tax‑free is not offered at this time.)

  2. Provide your flight details We’ll capture your flight number and date of travel, and verify your passport details so the invoice exactly matches the travel document.

  3. Pay and we prepare your parcel Your jewellery is sealed and sent securely to the Airport Collection Point ready for your departure. (Operational packaging follows Customs requirements.)

  4. Collect before you board On the day, present your Collection Authorisation and passport at the Collection Point after check‑in, before departure, and take your parcel with you on your international flight.

Timing and where to collect

Purchases must be made within 45 days of your departure date.

Please allow at least 5 working daysbefore your flight for us to prepare and deliver your parcel to the airport Collection Point.

Collection Points are available at Auckland (AKL), Wellington (WLG), Christchurch (CHC), and Queenstown (ZQN) international departure areas.

Airport delivery fee & GST treatment

A NZD $350 Airport Delivery Fee (including GST) applies to every tax‑free order. This fee is non‑refundable.For tax‑free orders:

  • Eligible jewellery products can be processed GST‑free

  • Professional Care Planscan be processed GST‑free

  • Airport Delivery Feecan be processed GST‑free

Please note: While these items can be processed tax‑free, the Terms & Conditions currently state otherwise and will be updated to reflect this process.

  • Full name (as shown on passport) and contact details

  • Passport details

  • Flight number and departure date

  • Country of residence(for Customs documentation)

  • We’ll ensure your invoice and tax‑free documentation match your travel details exactly.

Important Notes

Collection must be completed by you (the travelling passenger); we’re unable to release tax‑free parcels to third parties.

Tax‑free purchases cannot be placed on Layby or Customer Order.

For compliance, staff are required to capture flight details and issue a manual tax‑free invoice alongside your POS receipt.

Cruise ship passengers

Travelling out of New Zealand on an international cruise? Tax‑free purchases may be available.

Visit us in‑store with your passport and confirmed cruise documentation and our team will advise the process.

OUR SERVICES

Tax‑Free Purchases (NZ): Available to eligible customers departing New Zealand on international flights from participating airports. Tax‑free transactions must be completed within 45 days of departure. GST is not charged on eligible product items; service items (including Professional Care Plans) and the Airport Delivery Fee (NZD $300 incl. GST) are taxable. Layby and Customer Orders are not available for tax‑free purchases. Collection is only available to the travelling passenger named on the invoice and travel documents.
